Microbial Inactivation with Peracetic Acid

In the October 2015 Disinfection Forum the decomposition of peracetic acid (PAA) in a variety of wastewaters collected throughout the United States was discussed. The results demonstrated that PAA decomposition can be fit to a first order kinetic rate equation with an “instantaneous” demand of approximately 11% of the initial PAA dose concentration. In this month’s Disinfection Forum, the microbial inactivation kinetics for fecal coliforms, E. coli and enterococci using PAA disinfection is explored.
