Treatment of shallow soil contamination using high pH activation of Klozur® Persulfate at an active industrial site in Illinois
In situ chemical oxidation was applied at an active industrial site in Illinois to treat shallow soil contamination with PCE, TCE, methylene chloride, toluene and xylenes. High pH activation ISCO provided treatment effectiveness on both chlorinated and petroleum hydrocarbons, rapid cleanup timeframe and relatively low cost application.
Sampling results indicate that PCE, TCE, methylene chloride, xylenes, and toluene levels were generally reduced from 88% to 99% within 6 months following treatment. The project attained the soil cleanup criteria established by the State of Illinois EPA.
