A two-year study to evaluate the effectiveness of in situ chemical oxidation technologies using activated Klozur® Persulfate to remediate manufactured gas plant residuals.
Klozur® Activated Persulfate was selected to treat the affected area for the combination of its stability and aggressiveness in the subsurface. A single application of alkaline activated persulfate was applied to the impacted soil at a former manufactured gas plant.
Soil samples post application indicated reductions in the average total PAH concentration in the range of 55 to 63 percent, while TPH concentrations achieved reductions between 68 and 75 percent. The data also demonstrated that the leaching of COCs from the treated site soils decreased by 63 percent relative to untreated site soils.
